CodeGrade was born in the classrooms of the University of Amsterdam. As teaching assistants, our founders experienced the same struggles shared by educators around the world: spending endless hours grading assignments, trying to give every student meaningful feedback, and finding ways to keep coding education fair and engaging at scale.

Frustrated but inspired, they set out to build a better solution — one that would make teaching programming easier and more rewarding, while helping students truly learn. What started as a small project to help fellow teaching assistants soon grew into a platform used by educators and institutions across the globe.

Today, CodeGrade is proud to support thousands of teachers and students in making coding education more scalable, effective, and enjoyable. Our mission hasn’t changed: to empower teachers with the tools they need to inspire the next generation of programmers.
